An alternative to plastic baggies for lunches
With school starting back up I am guessing you are packing a few more lunches than you were at this time last month, well, if you have kids at least. When packing a lunch for school, work, or even a picnic or outing with little ones how can you avoid using all those little plastic baggies?
Well, you can pack things in reusable containers. I tried that for awhile and ran in to a few problems.
- To pack everything in my lunch box into a reusable container takes a lot of containers, 4 to 5 per day.
- To avoid having 20 or 30 containers around, I have to wash those containers every single day.
- It's tricky to find a lunch box and container combo that fits well with a water bottle and an ice pack without carrying a smaller cooler along with me.
- Saving and washing out the plastic bags I use. Ok for snacks sometimes but kind of a pain overall.

You could always match up containers you already have and sew a bag to hold them or find a bag they fit in. It's not quite as cool though, but it might do for now. And really, being green should be about using what you have first, right?
