Solar powered tie: Energy independence in the form of neckwear
Looking for that eco-accessory that says: I want to be formal, but I still feel the need to have cooler gadgets than you. Maybe you should look into getting one of these thin film solar-powered neckties developed by Iowa State University. Instead of thinking of your tie as the uncomfortable noose of business fashion, you can take pleasure in the fact that it's charging your iPhone while you sit in that boring meeting. It may not be as sexy as the solar powered-bra, but the solar tie's actually a lot more functional. Unlike bras, the necktie is usually designed to be worn outside of your clothing -- so it has a little higher probability of soaking up some rays. Not only were the inventors of the solar tie practical enough to take its light-capturing ability into consideration, they also took the liberty of adding a little pocket on the back for your phone or iPod. Nice.
Apparently, the solar cells make it a difficult tie to knot. Maybe they should develop a clip-on? Or one of those fancy zipper ties?
