World's smallest fuel cell vehicle
This fuel cell vehicle may be designed with the kiddies in mind, but I doubt that toddlers will be the only ones playing with Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies' Hydrocar -- it's pretty much the perfect gift for any renewable energy geek. Apparently, this advanced toy of the future is actually propelled by a Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell that you charge up yourself using only water and a solar panel. According to the brochure, the you can literally watch the hydrogen and oxygen gases accumulate in the containers on the back of the vehicle. I don't remember learning very much from playing with my Erector Set as a kid, but as an adult, I imagine that the Hydrocar might help me understand the chemistry behind a working fuel cell (which I don't really know the first thing about).
Because of the cost and technological barriers to full-sized hydrogen cars, this toy fuel cell vehicle will probably be as close as we get to the real thing for quite a long time. Too bad it's not remote-controlled.
