Electric bikes take the sweat, and exercise, out of biking
Sure, in theory it would be nice to live in the Netherlands where people bike everywhere. But in reality? Biking is sort of sweaty hard work, especially since many parts of the US are rather hilly. Commuting to work in sporty spandex is just a career non-starter for most of us. Also, we're notoriously lazy.Enter the electric bike. A little more work than a scooter, but a lot easier than a ten speed, electric bikes are an increasingly attractive transportation option for people who don't want to drive a car and want more schedule flexibility than public transportation affords.
In terms of accessibility, you can find electric bikes everywhere these days, ranging in price from a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars. Most of the bikes don't require a special license, as long as they only go 20 miles per hour and power doesn't exceed 750 watts.
There are dozens of different kinds of electric bikes out there, from scooter-like machines, to tricycles to foldable bicycles with a little rocket boost. You can learn about all the details at electric-bikes.com, and check out some of the options in the gallery.
