For most drivers, electric cars and hydrogen cells are way off. In the meantime, you're probably getting around using old-fashion fossil fuel. Not to worry -- there are steps you can take to be a bit greener (and lower your annoyingly high gas bill).

The web site, sponsored by the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, has been endorsed by Cali governor Schwarzenegger, among others, and can help you improve fuel mileage by about 15 percent while slightly reducing your green guilt about burning CO2 producing fossil fuel wherever you go.

The site starts off with the green-inclined governor giving an overview of some of the things you can do. The simple but useful site goes on to give tips like checking tire pressure (tip number 5) and using cruise control to get an average fuel saving of 7% (tip number 7) . You can even try a virtual road test that gives you an eco-rating (it doesn't have much to do with real driving but it's a useful way to waste time at work while telling people you care about the earth).

If you're concerned about the planet and your wallet, you'll probably find some tips here that you didn't know about. At least until you get that algae-powered car you've been eagerly awaiting.
