Imagine 4.6 Empire State Buildings full of plastic hangers
The folks over at Green Heart Global don't like the thought of 8 billion plastic hangers going into landfills every year. Once I read the numbers, I wasn't too excited either. Eight billion hangers equals 4.6 Empire State Buildings worth, or 46,296 semi trucks. That's an awful lot of hangers. I know anymore when I go to the store, I automatically take my clothes off the hangers so I don't have to bring them home. But I thought at least the stores were recycling them.
According to Gary Barker, founder and CEO of Green Heart Global plastic hangers are made up of all kinds of stuff, none of it very easily recyclable. His solution? Ditto Hangers, made of either paper or PET plastic (the same stuff lots of water bottles are made of). Both lines of hangers are made from recycled materials and also easily recycled themselves.
I'm all for paper hangers, especially on items from big box retailers. I'd certainly bring them home and reuse them, or recycle them. Do you bring home hangers from the store?
