Christmas to be more expensive this year, due to high energy prices

Christmas may end up being much more expensive this year, up to 15% higher than last year's festivities, according to a recent article in the AP. From everything from toys to decorations to clothing, prices are expected to go up, due to the same old, same old: rising energy prices. Along with a sluggish economy, higher prices are expected to stifle holiday consumer spending even more.

One solution, according to the article....Start buying your holiday presents now, in August, as a hedge against future price increases.

I don't know about you, but I can't think of anything I want to do less right now than go holiday shopping. However, as much as it might not be something you want to worry about right now, it may not be too early to come up with a plan for the holidays, with regards to both events and purchases. To make things even easier, maybe try the Buy Nothing Christmas Challenge.
