Cadillac prices Escalade Hybrid at $71k
Ok, let's see a show of hands for those of us who saw this coming. The term "hybrid" is certainly a buzzword, and despite the fact that Hollywood's A-list has turned the Prius from a laughable "toy car" to a trendy accessory, they're still a positive step towards an independence from fossil fuels. Right?Well, this is starting to change as giant SUVs are now getting the hybrid badge. A perfect example of this is the new Cadillac Escalade Hybrid, priced at $71,685. This is a $3600 leap above the regularly-fueled, comparably-equipped behemoth, but more than $15,000 more than the base model. The real kicker here though is the fact that the hybrid model will get 20/21 mpg (city/highway), while the regular model gets 12/18 mpg. Seriously? A difference of only 3 miles per gallon on the highway? I guess the name "hybrid" does mean more to some than its actual relevance to the environment.

may I remind the author, or possibly, inform the author that hybrids promote better CITY driving milage than highway milage. I agree the escalade hybrid is stupid but yeah... Hybrids=city cars. They only do better on the highway because of low displacement engines and aerodynamics.

How is this stupid? Think about the weight, then think about stopping and starting every few blocks at the same time having almost near perfect power from the first tap on the gas.
Making this is going to ensure future hybrid systems are going to be more powerful and over all better.
Is every greeny honestly this dumb.

Another example of money-hungry minds thinking up more ways to sell "green" products rather than "making" environmentally friendly products and marketing them against the still decidedly un-green mainstream. No trend-setting here. Just following the crowd of gullible consumers who have money to spend and prefer spending it on products that make them feel good without actually having to change one single habit. It is still about feeling green rather than living with less impact. Can't wait to see luxury cruise ships going hybrid and decadently wasteful people patting themselves and each other on the shoulder for being good to the planet and living exemplary lives.
Hybrid SUVs of that size are an example of more eco-liposuction rather than eco-exercise and eco-diet change. North America needs a serious fitness program for people who are obese between the ears.
