Study: eat kangaroo burgers, fight global warming
Australia's National Kangaroo Meat Council has been rather busy lately, sending out press release after press release touting the greenhouse advantages of kangaroo farming. According to the latest study, because of their light grazing habits and modest methane emissions, switching Australia to an all-kangaroo diet could cut Australia's overall greenhouse emissions by 3%. If only it were that simple. For whatever reason, kangaroo meat has a bit of an image problem, probably because the jumpers are too cute for most people to consider eating. The other obvious problem is the fact that the beef and sheep industries -- even though they constitute 11% of Australia's total emissions -- are ingrained into the culture, and it's going to take more than one or two ad campaigns to change that.
Consider PETA, they've been beating people over the head for years with their sometimes creative, sometimes retarded campaigns, and they've had very limited effect on anyone's eating habits.

That and the Australians that I know claim that kangaroo tastes terrible and is usually only used to make dog food... Oh, and Australian beef that is sold in Japan tastes pretty wretched, so I can only imagine how bad kangaroo tastes.

Garnaut's ridiculous suggestion has greatly discredited him and all his research on Climate Change. With at least six new coal mines about to go ahead in the Galilee basin in Central Queensland, more new coal mines mooted in NSW, massive roadworks and freeway construction everywhere to accomodate even more cars, (as though anyone will be able to afford to put fuel them in 5 years time).....and Garnaut is concerned about a few cows farting........
If thats the best solution Government advisors can come up with....we are all in a lot of trouble! Unfortunately the silly idea has caught the attention of the International media, who seem to love silly stories, (and the Australian media seems to come up with a fair few) so the nonsense has had wide overseas coverage. No wonder we are seen overseas as a cruel barbaric nation.
