Disaster-proof environmentally-friendly styrofoam houses?
Dome-shaped homes are nothing new, and styrofoam has been used in wall construction for ages, yet we don't see too many styrofoam houses that can claim to be highly resistant to earthquakes, fires and typhoons.Japan Dome House Co., Ltd. has created a 100% expanded polystyrene foam module home with 7-inch-thick walls that weigh only 175 pounds per module. They say these homes can be built in "a matter of hours" and fully comply with Japan's strict safety codes. In fact, there is currently an entire resort of 480 homes at Aso Farm Land resort village in Kyushu. Of course the bad part about this is the fact that they're made of styrofoam, although the company does claim that their homes are environmentally-friendly.
