Dante Beatrix: Eco-friendly backpacks for kids
Dante Beatrix makes an assortment of bags. We're especially fond of their eco-friendly line. You know how we do.
The "Big Kid Eco Pack" is a sturdy backpack created with nylon that is entirely constructed from recycled plastic drinking bottles. The trim is naturally biodegradable canvas.
According to the website: "Each of these packs keeps seven 16oz bottles out of the environment. Big enough to hold books, notebooks, lunch and a pair of sneakers." We suspect that comic books, video games and assorted non-educational items will fit in there nicely as well.
There are three different designs for kids (it fits ages 5-10) to choose from. The themes are peace, love and recycling, which in our humble opinion seem to go together swimmingly.
Dante Beatrix is based in a cozy Manhattan office and is run by three designers and a canine (their pampered mascot Trixie). Their products can be purchased directly online or via one of these fine stores.

I work with a non profit (Operation Teddy Bear) to get back packs for Title #1 schools, 1st graders who are challenged financially.
We would be needing about 3,600 back packs next year.
Let me know the price please. Nancy

Great idea, in theory. As a staunch Greenie, I'm all for it. However, I don't know any little kid that would trade his teddy bear or butterfly backpack for one with a Recycle symbol on it. I'm certain I couldn't sell that to my 5 year old. The key is to make them so that they look like normal back packs and attractive to kids! Until this happens, Lands End is still going to do tremendous backpack business.
