Jetpooling: the slightly less wasteful way to charter flights
Over the last year, we've seen all sorts of celebrities get busted for their excessive jet setting -- even a few supposedly environmentally conscious mega-stars. Well, since there's little hope of convincing them all to start booking commercial flights, a new service called Join the Jet Setters is trying to find a happy medium. Now, when the super-rich are booking a flight, they can at least try share a jet with other people heading the same way -- reducing pollution. Sort of. I write that because there's really nothing very green about chartering a private jet. And, while jetpooling or jet sharing -- whatever you want to call it -- could equate to less carbon spewing into the atmosphere. It has just as much potential to allow for more people to enjoy the luxury of chartered jets -- not exactly a climate-conscious result.
If you happen to be a truly green-minded jet setter, it's probably a better idea to take Ed Begley Jr.'s advice: fly commercial and buy offsets.
