Pizza Hut goes organic -- kind of
Aren't most of Pizza Hut's many vegetable toppings "natural" and preservative-free to begin with? The Natural is packaged in a box comprised of 75% recycled material. Why can't they do that with all their boxes? Residents of Dallas and Tampa will be the first people to see these new pizzas this summer.
My first instinct is of course to pick apart the pizza giant but honestly, I feel sorry for them. Imagine trying to expand your market as food costs rise steeply. Instead of looking at greening their buildings or delivery practices to conserve energy and curtail expenses, the company is investing in organic tomatoes and a marketing campaign.
I love pizza. It tops my list of what one food item I would take with me on a desert island. On the rare occasion that I choose Pizza Hut to fill my cravings, it is because I am seeking a particular brand of grease only found on their crust. Not because I wish to be greenwashed into buying a multi-grain crust.
