July's Green Challenge: That's a wrap!
If you've been accompanying me on the Green Challenge this month then chances are you are as happy as I am that July is hours from being over. I knew that it would be difficult for me to take four minute showers all month and it was. What kept me committed was how enthusiastic so many of the commenters were about shortening shower times. Some of you are seriously hard core. Here are some of my favorite tips left in the comments of this months related Ripple shower timer giveaway:

There are two things that keep my showers short:That certainly would work for me!
1. Getting home late from work (after 11 pm) smelling like bacon, pickles, and other deli food, and wanting to get to bed as soon as possible!
2. Cold water!
Reeva offered up a practical tip ..
For a little romance and in your life and to catch up on current events, try Ellen's tip:i toss conditioner on my hair BEFORE i get in the shower..then shower ..i've noticed that my hair is a lot healthier when i do that routine as well
We have only recently started doing this to conserve water...HRH showers first and I hop in as he leaves. He is better at the timing, uses NPR to bore him out of the shower. Water doesn't have to start up again...plus we get to kiss good morning again in passing!
I'm fond of Miranda's approach as it is a smidge sadistic.
Last but not least, Irvin's comment made me laugh because his incentive for short showers is the exact reason why I hide under a stream of hot water for as long as I can.I really don't take long showers, so this months challenge FOR ME was cake. My husband on the other hand is having issues with taking shorter showers(he says there is no way to tell how long he's been in there), so I've started flushing the toilet in the other bathroom. For some reason has hurried him along just fine :D. So it would be great to have this to save my husband from 3rd degree burns : D
Keep your 2 year old in the bathroom with you (since your wife is at work and can't watch her). She'll keep opening up the shower curtain to screech at you.
Though I will not commit to a four minute shower every day, I have made some changes to my routine. It takes a long time for the hot water to travel to my shower head so I have started saving the cold water in a bucket to water plants or flush the toilet rather than let it flow down the drain. Instead of washing my hair every other day, I now wash it twice a week. Finally, I turn the water off when I shave. All in all, my shower time has gone from about twelve minutes to seconds over five minutes which is a pretty good improvement, I think.
Join me for next month's challenge. I'm really excited about it as it involves food. There will be more great giveaways so check back in the next couple of days. As always, thanks for playing along!
