Don't Worry
.. about anything you've considered worrying about lately, says one writer at the New York Times. Food miles and carbon footprints? A myth**. Plastic bags destroying the environment? Nope... the author cites the oh-so-vigilant EPA, who say that paper bags are worse than plastic.
This article also suggests that arctic melting isn't really that big of a deal in the immediate future.
Well, whew. My job is done. We've solved it all.
Seriously... I appreciate the fact that reporters are trying to lower my blood pressure, but I'm not sure that this is the best way to go about it. The arctic will continue to melt whether we worry or not and plastic bags will continue to pile up in landfills, as they really don't decompose well. Another thing the author says we shouldn't worry about, hot dogs, also have trouble decomposing in landfills, still recognizable up to 25 years later. Yummy.
**Note: while your kiwi fruit's mileage may not have the biggest effect on your carbon footprint, I think we could all benefit from knowing a little more about where our food comes from.
