Johnny Depp's private island will be solar-hydrogen powered

It takes a very special person to name their private Caribbean hideaway "F*ck Off Island," but we already know that Johnny Depp's not exactly your average guy -- in terms of finances or personality. Following in the footsteps of his mentor Marlon Brando, Depp decided to buy his own island and trick it out in an eco-friendly way back in 2005 -- pretty appropriate for the Pirates of the Caribbean alum with a socially conscious streak.

Now that Johnny's getting around to lay the groundwork for his endearingly named "F-Off Island," he's hot on the trail of one of today's hottest off-grid power systems. Depp's island paradise will be powered by one of Mike Strizki's solar panel systems with hydrogen fuel cell storage -- like the one in Strizki's energy-independent house in NJ.

Currently, Depp is 3rd in line to receive one of these miracle systems. It's expected to run him between $250,000 - $500,000, depending on how much energy he wants to hog. Video of Strizki's system after the jump.
