Activist tries the old superglue yourself to the UK Prime Minister trick
What's the best way to convince British Prime Minister Gordon Brown to oppose the third runway at Heathrow? I bet supergluing yourself to his jacket didn't cross your mind -- but that's exactly what Dan Glass of London's climate group Plane Stupid attempted yesterday. Krazy. At a meet and greet Tuesday -- where Mr. Glass was on the invite list -- Dan smuggled pouches of superglue in his underwear to carry out his sticky protest. When it came time to shake hands with the PM, Glass went for the two-hander, his left hand slathered in superglue. Then he told the other guests: "Do not worry - this is a non-violent protest. We cannot shake away climate change like you can just shake away my arm."
I guess the glue was this guy's way of saying that the Plane Stupid is going to stick to Brown on this issue. Still, if you're going to risk being shot by MI6, you need to pick an appropriately hilarious gag. Getting superglue on Gordon Brown's jacket, I'm not sure that's up to par. Anyhow, the Heathrow expansion has been extremely controversial among British environmental groups like Greenpeace (who've pulled their own runway shenanigans), on account of the extra carbon emissions that would presumably result.
The move was brave, I'll give that to the guy. Maybe things are different in the UK, but if someone pulled that with a US President, they would be the subject of a week-long interrogation and then placed on the dreaded "no fly list." Of course, since Glass is protesting against pollution from the airline industry, I guess he wouldn't care about that.

Don't honestly think that they would go "easy" on him over there... The only reason he might get off a lot of the hook there or here would be due to media attention, but they are much more "big brother" esq over in the UK. I'm sure someone complaining about water boarding would be something they would just giggle about. I don't understand why he did it to his jacket (which can simply be slipped off). If he was really interested in protesting and making a point, he should have done it skin to skin.
