I don't. I mean, if the bins aren't right there, I don't go take the time to separate my trash and seek out the nearest recycling venue. I might just be going to hell for this. However, the
Environmental Protection Agency has taken on this issue on their website and they have a few tips about leaving little waste while traveling. Some of these tips are great ideas to curb my bad vacation habits.
- Take only the brochures, extra condiment packets and coupons that you will actually use during your stay.
- You may be able to find recycling at rest areas so bring along extra bags to sort these in the car.
- If you get to the beach and you find that you've forgotten to bring along a volleyball, look for a store that specializes in used equipment. With any luck you can sell it right back to them at the end of your stay.
- Ask ahead before booking at a campground or hotel about their recycling capabilities.
- Bring your own toiletries in reusable containers rather than using the tossing the mini shampoos that hotels provide.
