Motorists will let you name children, steal from daycares for free fuel

One of Reuters' Oddly Enough articles profiles folks willing to do just about anything for some free gas:

  • One Florida man pledged to name his son after local radio hosts for a $100 gas card.
  • At a brothel in Nevada, clients who spend $300 or more will receive a $50 gas card. According to the brothel owners, free gas cards have been a big hit so far.
  • In Mesquite, Texas, thieves stole $100 worth of gas from a church day care center and have hit other churches in the area. Ouch.

On the flip side, free gas is being used to encourage good behavior too. For example, the Red Cross is raffling a year supply of fuel; you can enter the raffle by donating blood.

At St. Ann's Parish in West Bridgewater, Massachusetts, there is a drawing each week at Mass for a $50 dollar gift card. The pastor says the drawings are symbolic and not intended to boost Mass attendance.

Have you seen any wacky gas giveaways where you live?
