Amanda Peet apologizes for calling non-vaxing parents "parasites"
Amanda Peet has apologized for calling parents who don't vaccinate their kids "parasites," in a letter to Cookie magazine. Peet writes, "I believe in my heart that my use of the word "parasites" was mean and divisive; I completely understand why it offended some parents, and in particular, parents of children with autism who feel that vaccines caused their illness."
Good call Amanda. No matter where you fall on the vaccine debate, calling other parents "parasites" does not add value to the dialogue.
Peet goes on in the apology letter to talk about how her mom had polio and how it's "hard to appreciate vaccines now that so few children are dying from preventable diseases today," but how that could all change if we're not careful. For the rest of the letter, and her reasons why Peet is still pro-vaccinations, see here.
