John Mellencamp announces first Farm Aid in New England
Eating locally produced foods is one of the easiest ways to reduce your carbon footprint. However, when you live in the heart of one of the nation's most populous urban centers, it may not seem like farm fresh produce is a option. That's why the Cougar himself has set out build awareness of the New England agricultural community -- by announcing the location of this year's Fam Aid concert at Boston's Copely Square Farmer's Market. The year's star-studded benefit concert, dedicated to supporting family farms, will take place in Mansfield's Comcast Center, just south of Boston. Mellencamp will take the stage, along with Willie Nelson, Neil Young, and Dave Matthews, to showcase the benefits of supporting local agriculture, both ecologically and economically.
Concession stands will be stocked with 100% local, organic food from family farms in order to give the inebriated masses a taste of New England's home cookin'. Whole Foods and Horizon Organic will be sponsoring this year's event, which is now in its 23rd year. According to Willie:
"The only way to solve this is to do it locally... Let your neighbors grow your food so you don't have to import it. That addresses not only the big expense, but the environmental problem. And at the same time you're getting better food."[via Ecorazzi]
