Flooded London 2090 exhibit: post-apocalyptic optimism
London production firm Squint/Opera has apocalyptic visions of the future, and while they do include rising sea levels, massive flooding, and the breakdown of civilization as we know it, they don't seem to dread the final outcome entirely. You might call them unsinkable optimists. Their vision of London in 2090 -- long after rising sea levels have risen and the chaos has subsided -- has a peaceful, uncomplicated, and sublimely beautiful kind of feel to it.Using their knack fo 3D imaging, Squint/Opera has put together a collection of 5 snapshots showing how life might be after Londoners adapt to the city's mostly submerged terrain. One snapshot depicts women fishing from an abandoned office building. Another shows us a man preparing to dive into a flooded St. Paul's Cathedral. According to designer Nick Taylor, "the images are optimistic and reveal that far from being a tragedy, the floods have brought about a much-improved way of life to the capital city."
The exhibit runs through July 20th at the London Architecture Festival. Limited prints of each image are available for sale, check here for more info.
