Some plants can adapt to global warming; Can you?
Science Daily reports that some plants in Northern England grasslands seem to be adapting to changing climate. These conclusions were drawn from 13 years of results at the Buxton Climate Change Impacts Laboratory in the UK. Plants in the region's ecosystem, as well as plants at research sites in southern England, were variously given more rain, less rain, and more heat than usual. The plants in the northern plots fared much better than those in the southern plots; so much that scientists continued experimenting with the northern plants even after the initial research period ended. Scholars wondered if the northern plants simply take longer to react to climate change, or if adaptive evolution keeps pushing those plants best able to survive the changes to reproduce. I just hope no one decides to try to see the effects of more rain or more heat on humans....
