Cyber-Rain: Watch water wastage wane with web widget
With drought conditions in California forcing property owners to choose between constant watering (eco-unfriendly) or watching the yard dry up and blow into the Pacific Ocean (aesthetically unappealing), an entrepreneurial company has come up with a gadget that can help out.
The Cyber-Rain XCI checks the weather via a wireless connection to the web and then tells your sprinkler system what to do. On hot sunny days, your grass gets a full shower, less if cloudy, and when it rains the Cyber-Rain lets Mother Nature take over. It's a great device for gadget-heads, shut-ins and folks who are just too damn lazy to walk outside and turn the sprinkler off themselves.
You can pick up the Cyber-Rain for $349 on the company's website. If that seems a little steep to you, consider their claim that you can save 30-70% on your landscape watering bills. Some municipalities also offer rebates on this and other water-saving gadgetry.
