Smart Car roomier than previously thought

The drawback to most of these ultra high-efficiency cars is that they really don't give you much room (interior or exterior) to transport people or cargo. Well, the Smart Car might only sit 2 people legally -- but it can hold quite a few more than that. At Smart's 10-year anniversary party in Weybridge, England, the company hired a group of contortionists to figure out how many people they could stuff in the 8-ft long car.

Well, they didn't break the world record, but they did manage to squeeze 13 people in the very carbon-conscious sub-compact. The record is actually held by a group of Germans who somehow crammed 18 people (with a minimum age of 15) in one of these 40mpg micro machines. Personally, I think these contortionists were just playing it safe -- no one wants to see the Jaws of Life come out at the anniversary party.
