An Inconvenient Musical: Campy theater saves the planet
We've seen musical adaptations of movies about male strippers, the songs of Abba, even Jerry Springer -- so it's only natural that a young group of theatrical upstarts would stage a performance based on Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth. Not to be confused with An Inconvenient Opera, which is scheduled to hit the Italian stage in 2011, An Inconvenient Musical is making waves at the Toronto Fringe Festival -- with the premise that, because the former Vice President's Oscar-winning documentary didn't save the world, he's turned to musical theater ("the most powerful medium in the history of the world"), to spread his eco-friendly message.
The tongue-firmly-in-cheek story follows Gordon Green, a rocker who lost his father in a environmentally-related accident, as he battles against the evil villain Cole Powers -- as you can imagine, hilarity ensues.
An Inconvenient Musical has received rave reviews in the Toronto press, but there's only a couple more performances -- so if you live in the area, check out the website, get yourself some tickets, and go see it!
