Artist installs waterfalls around NYC

Yeah, New York is cool and everything -- amazing arts and culture, metropolitan atmosphere, naked cowboys in Times Square -- but it always felt like the city was missing something...until now! Artist Olafur Eliasson, has created an enormous new public art installation that has, essentially, added four new waterfalls to the urban landscape.
According to the city, the falls are designed to protect water quality and aquatic life along the New York waterfront, while also using energy-efficient LED lights and operating off of power purchased from renewable sources. If you're in New York or planning a visit anytime soon, you can check them out at the Brooklyn anchorage of the Brooklyn Bridge; on the Brooklyn Piers, between Piers 4 and 5 near the Brooklyn Heights Promenade; in Lower Manhattan at Pier 35 north of the Manhattan Bridge; and on the north shore of Governors Island.
The installation (titled "The New York City Waterfalls") will be on display through mid-October of 2008. Learn more about it on the NYC Waterfalls website.

Bummer -- it sounded like a cool idea and looked alright in the photos. Sorry to hear it's underwhelming. Sigh.
