Better choices for band-aids

As soon as I extricated myself from the great floss condumdrum, I immediately stumbled upon another stealth household de-greener (this is getting to be a regular thing): band-aids.

Well of course they're disgusting and non-recyclable. They're also biohazards, making them a double whammy. But I was relieved to find a couple of brands out there that are a little bit better than the others.

Eco-Guard Vegan Band-aids (yes, vegan, it's not just for food) are cruelty- and latex-free, and made from recycled PVC. They come in either a white-people-flesh colored version, and a kid or quirky-person version that is tinted with all natura, food-grade pink and blue dyes. Do you even need to ask if the packaging is recyclable? Well, it is. They cost $3.99 for a pack of 25 and you can get them at veganessentials.com ("where compassion meets convenience.")
The other choice appeals to my inner design-snob, plus their marketing is really funny. Help Remedies is an interesting company with a limited product line. They only sell two things: "Help I have a headache" (acetaminophen in a cool blister pack) and "Help I've cut myself" i.e. band-aids.

"Help I've cut myself" band-aids are made from hydrocolloids, the same wonder material they use in hospitals. It's almost clear, and is supposed to help reduce the risk of scarring. They are mostly good for minor cuts.

From an eco-friendly perspective, most of the "Help" packaging is made from molded paper pulp, is 100% recycled and compostable. They also don't use a bunch of nasty toxic inks. They are pricey, $6 for a pack of 10. But what price health and environmentalism, right?

Oh, and definitely check out the "Bored?" tab on the "Help" site. After you click the "horny" link (don't feel bad, we're sure everyone clicks that first) check out the "homesick" link. It's my new having-a-bad-day destination.

So these are the choices, until I find some super absorbent leaves I can tie to my body with hemp string. Please share any other brilliant suggestions in the comments.
