Death of the suburbs greatly exaggerated
Every where you turn, there's another article predicting the death of the suburbs. Expensive gas cause people to move back to the city and McMansions become boarding houses. But Joe Mysak of Bloomberg News says, "Don't write off the suburbs just yet." So what will happen as the result of ever-rising gas prices? Will all of these end-of-suburbia predictions come to pass? According to Mysak, nope. People will just pay more to drive their cars. Mysak explains that there is nothing unreasonable about the suburbs, it's just that people want a little more space than they can afford in a city.
Mysak's final proof. A real estate listing for a house in Brooklyn Heights, New York City, for a house that is not a particularly grand. Asking price, almost 6 million dollars.
I don't see any evidence of suburbia going to pieces in my area. How about where you are?
