Five ways to reuse neckties

Neckties are magnets for greasy stains. Too messy a meal can make your favorite silk accessory unwearable. Then there are those novelty ties that are hiding in the back of your closet right now. Instead of tossing them in the trash, try these five tips for reusing neckties.

  1. Dress up. Donate your ties to a child's costume box. You can even pre-knot them and stitch the folds in place.
  2. Handbag. Turn those ties into a fabulous handbag.
  3. Belt. The right tie can spruce up the waist of a simple dress or add extra zing to the belt loops of jeans. No sewing needed!
  4. Coffee sleeve. Our buddies over at DIY Life have instructions on how to turn a necktie into a coffee sleeve for Father's Day.
  5. Chair seat. Weave ties to create a new seat for a ladder back chair.I love this idea because it saves two items destined for the landfill and it looks great.
