Icelandic natives team up for environmental awareness concert
Mega-talented songstress and actor Bjork and ethereal-sounding foursome Sigur Ros aren't "nature experts" or politicians, as Bjork notes in an interview on her blog, but they do want to do more for the environment. And, well, they certainly have the power, with huge music careers and a passionate following. The two, along with icelandic musician Ólöf Arnalds and a few other Icelandic favs, will hold a concert in Iceland June 28 in order to raise awareness about environmental issues in the country. One of the contributors to climate change in Iceland is smelting, or chemical reduction, especially of an ore in order to produce metal.
Bjork's take on the environment is blissfully simple: "The 21st century is not going to be another oil century but rather a century where we need to recycle, think green and design both power plants and our surroundings in harmony with nature," she says in the interview.
