San Francisco adopts largest city-wide solar program in US
It seems like San Francisco manages to make green headlines each week with one environmental program after another, after another. Last week it was turning brown grease into biodiesel. This week, it's backing the most ambitious solar incentives program in the country. Yesterday, the city of San Francisco announced that its going to dole out $3M annually in solar subsidies for the next 10 years, to help its citizens harness green energy. Once the board gives its final approval, mayor Gavin Newsom says that things will start moving very quickly. Starting July 1st, individuals will be able to apply for rebates of $3,000 to $6,000 to subsidize their solar panel installations -- businesses will be able to get grants up to $10,000. As for non-profits, the city has set aside a separate $1.5M per year for you guys to dip into. No word on what the limits are for NPOs, if there are any. Looks like it might be time for the city's solar companies to start stockpiling equipment -- it's going to be a busy summer.
