U.S Prez Candidates on the environment and energy...Finally!
First up, McCain:
- Favors a cap-and-trade approach and sponsored legislation to cut emissions by 30 percent by 2050.
- Wants to suspend the federal gasoline tax during the peak summer driving season.
- Wants to suspend filling the Strategic Petroleum Reserve and has no set targets to reduce oil consumption but he says he will come up with a strategy to reduce reliance on foreign oil.
- Has not specified Corporate Average Fuel Economy targets. He voted against energy amendments in 2003 that would have raised CAFE to 40 mpg by 2015.
- Favors ethanol incentives.
- Would cut CO2 to 80% below 1990 levels by 2050, reduce emissions to 1990 levels by 2020.
- Would probe oil industry activities and stop filling the emergency oil reserve.
- Says he would reduce U.S. oil consumption by at least 35 percent by 2030.
- Wants to double fuel economy standards in 18 years.
- Would boost the renewable fuel standard to at least 60 billion gallons of advanced biofuels by 2030.
Whew! Got all that? And that's just one issue...
Will the environment and energy be a major factor in deciding who gets your vote in this upcoming election?
And finally, one last trip down memory lane...

Well, I just hope that they stress on the connection of the environment with the oil crisis. This oil issue has really impair million of Americans in so many ways. We know we have other alternatives, but we are too proud to withdraw from the oil market.
