Dorm room plants: Rubber trees
Rubber trees, although larger than many other houseplants, will grow slowly in a pot, and can help bring a green atmosphere to any dorm room. They can live in the sun or the shade, although at cooler temperatures, they will stop growing. The soil need only be moistened a bit; any more lovin' and your tree will start to ask for some space. You'll know if you're over-watering if the leaves begin to go yellow and start dropping off.
Of course, if you don't allow much sunlight into your room during the day, then this is not the plant for you. Although it tolerates shade, it does need sunlight, or it will start growing tiny leaves and begin to look awkward.
If you have a misting bottle, gently spray the leaves when you water. This is much easier than dusting the plant.
Is your tree getting too big? There are ways to prune it back by cutting off the growing tip, or even removing a whole branch.
