A real downer of a website

As you read this, 21 people have been born, 6 have died, and 2,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide have been emitted into the air. Oops - since you read that last sentence, those numbers have all doubled. Now, tripled. Now...
These numbers are from Breathing Earth, the most depressing website I've seen in awhile. As you watch, a counter tracks the aforementioned stats, and you can hover over parts of a world map and see each country's population, how often 1,000 tonnes of CO2 is emitted, as well as birth and death rates.
And if that weren't enough, each time the computer determines that a birth or death has occurred, the website viewer sees a logo flash.
It's simple, it's in-your-face, and it it's easy to understand. The general consensus? There are more births than deaths, and we're mucking up our atmosphere with CO2.
But while the stats are supposed to reflect real-time data, the site's owners are quick to remind you that it's just a simulation. So, like, don't go complaining about how the data is fake and that you can't trust any of the site's claims. 'kay?

I suppose those statistics could be depressing if you assume that nothing can be done about the trends they describe.
Unfortunately, the media gives us little indication that these problems are solvable. The unfortunate effect of this is that most people give up and try not to think about it.
However, solutions to overpopulation and greenhouse gas emissions are available, and could be implemented today if more people were aware of what they are. These solutions are not very glamorous nor do they provide quick results, but they are effective and practical if we all work together patiently to make them work.
We have an entire website dedicated to these kinds of solutions. You can find articals and radio shows on brightfuture.us that show us how we can make a brighter future for all.
