Breaking WIND: the state of wind power in Kansas
Governor Kathleen Sebelius is known for laying the smackdown on coal power in her home state. Green Kansans rejoiced when she decided to deny a series of proposals for new coal fired power plants in the sunflower state. She stopped by WINDPOWER 2008 to attend a panel discussion and share some facts about how wind power is shaping up in her state. Apparently, Kansas is mounting a serious effort to reach a 10% wind power mix by the end of this year. That's right -- 2008. Over the last 3 years, Kansas' wind energy production has tripled and it's expected to triple again in the next 3 years. Horizon Wind Energy recently broke ground on a 200MW farm in central Kansas that will power 45,000 homes.
