WINDPOWER 2008 in Houston
Last August, Texas surpassed California in wind energy production and since then the state's wind capacity has only picked up steam. That might very well be the reason why Houston was selected to play host to the American Wind Energy Association's blowout wind conference called WINDPOWER 2008. The expo is basically the nexus of everyone who's in the know when it comes to the state of wind power. Last year's shindig in LA was about 7,000 strong, organizers are expecting up to 12,000 attendees this at this year's event. Way bigger.

If nothing else, the boost in attendance is a testament to the huge interest in renewable energy over the past year. The event basically promises to be a smorgasbord of tech people, turbine salesmen and energy companies trying to hook up with some of the massive capital investments that are now being thrown at wind power.
Since I live right down the road, (not really) I thought I'd go and check out what's really going on with wind energy and how realistic it is that we will really be getting 20% of our power from wind in 2030. I'll be here at the conference trying to sort through the press releases, presentations, and gadgets to find some kind of entertaining news junk. Oh yeah, not that it will influence the tone or content of what I'm writing, but AWEA provided part of my travel budget -- and I thank them for that.
