Cats require safety collars with either a breakaway clasp or an elastic section to allow them to slip out of the collar if, in their wanderings, they get caught while jumping around.

How is it that there's some factual error in nearly all posts made by this author?

I'm usually onboard with promoting 'green' thinking, but let's not water down the major issues with such insignificant suggestions as saving parts from a pet collar. Green minded thinking can become such an obsession that people may not see the "forest for the trees." Unless someone has already checked off their list twice as far as recycling, buying smart, getting educated, and has nothing left to do in their life, then they can tackle Spot's collar.

This suggestion gets a thumbs down from me.

It adds up? How? If you looks at what you own (house, car, second car, furniture, clothes, appliances, toys, etc), how much percent is used up by your dog collar, or pet collar parts? 0.001%? Less? Is it worth worrying about pet collars regarding the big picture and how little people are willing to change?

Kelly, I read that you like this website where you can read about recycling all this stuff, but... enough already. There has to be something more heavy-weight than recycling or reusing insignificant items.

The people who are interested and willing to deal with the parts of a pet collar rather than throwing it away do not need this sort of advice. They got it pretty much figured out already.

How about writing a critical, yet insightful review of my tremendously informative (and completely redesigned) website instead? :)

Hey thanks for mentioning my tutorial! I appreciate the link.

Just to clarify this is a sewing tutorial that happens to reuse parts of your pet's existing collar (and yes, that means your cat will have another breakaway collar). The intention is not to recycle every scrap of every item in your life.

If you have a pet and like to sew this is a quick, easy and fun project that also happens to involve recycling.

I don't know why people get so upset at small suggestions. Reusing a collar isn't going to save the world, but it's not doing any harm, is it? And, from a less green standpoint, I like the idea that once my pup has outgrown a favorite collar, I might still be able to use it for something.
