Green Daily giveaway: Dirt Devil Accu Charge hand vac
Last week I posted about the Dirt Devil Accu Charge cordless hand vac. By Dirt Devil's own proclamation it has a longer battery life than some of its other hand vacs, charges twice as fast and uses far less energy to charge and to vacuum. I thought, all in all, the hand vac lived up to its claim. Below you can see my lovely unprofessional photos of the product. Now you can check it out yourself. All you need to do is enter to win. In exchange, tell us about your favorite energy efficient/environmentally friendly gadget for cleaning or repairing items around the house.

My favorite gadget is my umbrella style clothesline that I purchased a few months ago. You can easily adjust and tighten the line and it holds 80 pounds of clothes. I did have to set the stand in concrete, but that was better than installing 2 new posts in the yard. It can collapse for winter storage, too. Very lightweight and saves energy because I'm not running the dryer all summer.

My favorite "gadget" is my Forschner's chef's knife. When used correctly, it is faster and more efficient than any food processor. And like Green & Clean Mom, I also like my HE washer and dryer.

How about some good old fashioned elbow grease. It seems like everyday more and more of our utensils are becoming electrified in order to save us time and energy. We live in a world of electric toothbrushes, electric knives, and even electric pepper mills. But it wasn't that long ago that we did all our everyday activities without electricity. Our refrigerators were ice boxes, we did our dishes by hand, we swept the floor, etc. And in this modern age of convenience, I think it is important to remember that the most important "gadget" of all is a little bit of good old fashioned elbow grease.

My favourite cleaning gadget is my broom. I just bought a new Vileda one that has a microfibre cloth on the end that you can get wet and use it as a mop too. It doesn't use any electricity and the microfibre end can be washed when it gets dirty instead of throwing it out and buying a new one like the Swiffer stuff.

I love the broom and dustpan combination. They are low on manufactured objects, and have a great usability.

My hands work pretty well, maybe add in a screwdriver and a hammer here and there... can't get much more energy efficient than that. :-)

My favorite is a recycled cloth rag or a dish rag. Using my hands and some elbow grease are great too!

This is so great! All those comments here about brooms and dustpans and laundry lines. Good, rational, simple-living people do exist!
My favorite devices (I hate to call them gadgets because of that negative image of superfluous existence) are the dish brush, the compost bucket, the broom, the dustpan, the ax, and the laundry line/racks. Basic hand tools are a must. Oh yes, the mechanical drain snake/plunger. All make life easier, less toxic, or save a lot of energy all year long. And they have always worked reliably.
And if I happen to win this drawing - I do not want the prize (valued at $44.99). It would add negatively to what I value in my life.

Hmm...sadly I can't say that I really have any energy efficient cleaning gadgets (not counting non-mechanical items like brooms, etc.)
However, I do need a new dustbuster so what better than replacing it with a new energy efficient model?

my favorite cleaning gadget is...broom and dustpan. Honestly, I don't need a vaccuum to clean up a little spilled granola and pet fur.

My favorite household cleaning method - using my kids to help clean. Using vinegar, lemons, and water are perfectly safe around them, and they have fun. I had tons of recieving blankets from my twins, and they make great rags for dusting and cleaning all sorts of surfaces, and they've lasted now for three years.
Our little vacuum is on the fritz, but when it was working, it was my daughter's favorite 'toy.' She would vacuum any mess without hesitation. Weird, but awesome.

My most energy cleaning and everyday use efficient gadgets are:
* My manual hand can opener when I need to open a can.
* My old fashioned broom and dustpan! white vinegar and reusable sponges and clothes for cleaning.
* A wood clothes drying rack, and my sun drenched deck for drying!
* My low flow shower head
* my worm compost bin, saves on disposing through garbage disposal, or trash when apartment living!
