I love apples but once they get past the crunchy point and into pithy I have little use for them. Usually I toss them into the compost bin but there are other ways to reuse them. Here are five:
- Though overripe apples won't be good for a pie, they are well suited for homemade applesauce.
- Apples can be used to make an exfoliating face mask.
- In elementary school we made apple faces by carving out eyes and a mouth in a peeled apple, putting it on a stick and letting it dry. We then added cotton fiber for hair and used leftover fabric scraps for clothes.
- Thinly slice and dry the apples in a 200 degree oven for six hours and create an apple wreath or potpourri.
- Cut the apples in pieces and leave them outside for birds and furry creatures.
