Bill to force EPA's hand approved
This week, the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee voted, 10-9, to approve S. 2555, a bill that would require the EPA allow states to set stricter-than-the-national emission limits. The vote was mostly on party lines with two exceptions -- outgoing Sen. John Warner (R-VA) voted for it; Sen. Thomas Carper (D-DE) voted against it. The bill is designed to overturn the EPA's 2007 decision to deny California a waiver that would have allowed the state to more stringently regulate greenhouse gas emissions from cars and other motor vehicles.
