Mules: the new sustainable tractor
Not to be confused with Kawasaki's gas-powered utility vehicle, the latest thing in farm implements might run on a biofuel commonly known as hay. Today's soaring gas prices have made some farmers look back in time, ditching their diesel hogging tractors for the original plow-pulling machine: the mule. Even with the $300B farm subsidies bill tracking its way through congress, small farmers like T.R. Raymond say that running gas powered equipment just isn't worth it.According to Raymond: "we can feed these mules cheaper than we can buy fuel... It's the way of the future." Hmm, I thought it was the way of the past -- and I'm sure groups like PETA did too. This story kinda reminds me of the one about the Border Patrol saddling up to traverse rugged terrain. If a horse or a mule can do the job just as well, why wouldn't you use one? It's definitely greener.
