Google Earth climate change animation might make you sweat
A new Google Earth animation called Climate Change in Our World shows what climate change might do to the planet over the next century or so if we don't get a handle on it.
Based on medium-case climate change scenarios, the animated image of the earth from space uses data from the UK Environment Ministry and Met Office, and satellite photos from NASA, to provide a picture of a warming planet. Users can zoom on specific regions for a closer look at the impacts of climate change, and click on icons to learn about real people whose lives have already been affected - a sad collection of stories about flooded homes, drought-stricken farmers, and famines-in-waiting that could be coming to a neighbourhood near you .
If reading isn't your thing, just speed the animation up and watch the planet transform in a couple of time-lapsed seconds from a calm, cool blue to a fiery yellow-red. It'll definitely make you think.
