Why is it so hard to find "green" hard liquor?

What's strange about the lack of a green choice when it comes to hard liquor is the fact that it seems so easy to make it organic. All of the ingredients are basically distilled grain, fruits or vegetables, right? If you use organic versions of those, you then have organic spirits. So then why do we have such a limited choice when it comes to "green" liquor?

Well, the biggest problem isn't really organic ingredients, in the scope of things, it's the fact that most of these hard alcoholic beverages are imported (if you live in the US). The environmental impact of transporting something over such a large area far outweighs any organic provisions. So the best thing to do when you get your drink on is go local and organic, whenever possible. Some great examples of local (if you're in the US) organic spirits include those from Square One of California and Rain Organic Vodka out of New Orleans. Try a quick search in your area to see if there is a distillery local to you. Luckily for me, I'm about an hour from Jack Daniel's!
