Five ways to reuse house keys
Despite my best intentions, I have rings of keys that have no purpose. Well, I take that back, they have a purpose, I just don't know what locks they belong to. This is due in part to a rental unit that I frequently rekey and the fact that I tend to accumulate keys while pet sitting and then there are the mystery keys that came with the house. I can't be the only one.Keys can in fact be recycled as they are metal. However, you might want to try a more creative approach.
- I have seen keys, coins, and nuts shellacked onto table surfaces. The "key" is to find a varnish thick enough to provide a smooth, finished surface.
- Keys are malleable enough to be shaped. Connecting a few together with the help of a small drill and some metal links would make an interesting bracelet.
- If you have a tree in your back yard, hang some keys from the branches for a wind chime - or a good conversation starter.
- Keys can be dropped in the hem of drapes and curtains to weigh them down. They can also do the same for your fishing line.
- Hold onto your spare key until next Valentine's Day, run a ribbon through it and give away the "key to your heart." Aaaaah.
