EFuel100: Make your own Ethanol and fill up your car at home
The jury may still be out on whether Ethanol and biodiesel are the solution to the world's oil addiction. There's some evidence that diverting food crops to fuel production is raising the prices of food, and it's questionable whether you could grow enough fuel crops to power all the vehicles currently relying on gasoline. But what if you could fill up your car with Ethanol produced in your backyard, not in a field in Iowa?
The EFuel100 Micro Fueler is a contraption that will let you do just that. Basically, you add some water, sugar, and yeast, let it sit for a few days and you've got ethanol that you can use to power your car. The Micro Fueler can also take alcohol, and co-founder Thomas Quinn says he sometimes makes ethanol from discarded alcohol picked up from bars and restaurants.
Between supplies and electricity, it costs about $1 to produce a gallon of ethanol. But the up front costs are a bit higher than that. A Micro Fueler will set you back about $10,000, although with government subsidies, you can probably chop a few thousand dollars off that price.

It would seem possible if more people were concerned with crop and fuel cost.There are a lot of homes in my state that wastes land for huge yards.If they leased the land for farming, they could make a little money.How much money does it take to mow these lawns?Impression is too important to people.

There;s this kind of weed (that grows naturally here in America) that has so much energy potential that it puts corn to shame.
sad thing is, if i'm remembering correctly, it's against the law to try to make ethanol out of anything other than corn and soy.

470 lbs of sugar for 35 gallons of fuel? Who's going to deliver this to my house? Who's going to shovel the sugar into the cooker? I will need about 1 ton (200 gallons?) of sugar ever month to make 140 gallons of fuel?. Where the heck am I going to store 200 gallons of Sugar?
If a trucker is going to deliver 50 gallons of sugar each week and they drive 30 miles to my house and get 5 miles/gal they are going to use 6 gallons of gas and $50 for the trucker salary or about $70 delivery fee at the very least. That's $2/gallon JUST for the delivery of the sugar!
Maybe someone should start a liquid sugar pipeline!
This sure appears to be a scam.

I am getting into this a little late but, agree with the comments on delivery. There is also other state to state concerns... someone posted moonshine... That is correct in that this may also fall under those laws and TAXES if it does it will send the cost through the roof, and will prevent average users from making it in the first place (it is against the laws of most states to make moonshine, regardless of it's use and purpose).
