May's Green Challenge: Failing grade
The other day I returned from the convenience store, put my newly purchased items away and headed to the back of the house to add two fresh plastic bags to the collection. It was then that it hit me that I had not one, but TWO contraband plastic bags in my hand. I turned my husband, let out an explicative and declared myself a failure early in the challenge.Last week I invited everyone to join me in using reusable bags exclusively for purchases and saying, "goodbye" to the plastic bag. It's a habit that I have yet to acquire and I'm working hard to do so.
This week hasn't been a total bust. My grocery store trip was perfectly executed and the cashier seemed to know the drill. I forgot to bring a bag with me to Sam's club but they don't give out bags anyway so I was in the clear. Twice I've gone into a store with a cloth bag and forgot to give it to the cashier which resulted in an awkward relinquishing of the plastic bag at the counter. I only hope that they got reused.
For next week I vow to do better!

I'm wagging my finger at you, hopefully those bags will be recycled in some way.

I reuse my plastic bags to haul trash and cat litter. I am still very ashamed, however.

Ugh! I had signed up thinking "this will be a breeze!" because I never take bags. Went out to lunch on Sunday with family and when I turned my back, they had boxed up our leftovers for us to take home ... in two black styrofoam boxes, each in an individual plastic bag! Hopefully I will cruise through the rest of the month.

Phew. At least I'm not the only ones struggling.
