Sting and others rock for the Rainforest Foundation
Looking for something to blow your economic stimulus check on in the Big Apple? How about putting it towards a ticket for Sting's Rainforest Foundation benefit concert. Sting and his wife Trudie Styler might have a hypocritically large carbon footprint, but they more than make up for it by bringing in huge donations to protect rainforest areas in 23 countries. They do a pretty good job too -- in 1993, they were instrumental in getting a 17,000 square mile area of the Amazon legally recognized as Indigenous Area. The couple will be celebrating their charity's 20th anniversary at Carnegie hall next Thursday at 7PM, and they hope to net $2M for the rainforest. The concert will feature performances by James Taylor, Billy Joel, Brian Wilson (my personal fave), and Sting -- of course. Kind of a middle aged roster, but hey -- the idea is to target people that have money. After the show, guests are invited to an organic dinner at the Plaza Hotel, where there will be a charity auction. Tickets range from $175-$400.
