April's Green Challenge: That's a wrap!
At the beginning of April I challenged myself and our esteemed Green Daily readers to change out one incandescent bulb in their home with one compact florescent lamp (CFL). I sit here bathed in florescent light as I type and consider this month a success knowing that I won't have to haul out the ladder to change a light bulb for the next few years! Check out the video for a full report (it was my first time ... go easy on me).
If you haven't already changed out a bulb in your house, you still have a few hours to do so and let me know how it goes in the comments.
Check back within the next few days for May's Green Challenge!

I was directing a non-profit. We had switched out over 30 of our light bulbs. I recently moved out and into my own apartment. I took 15 or so with me. Every bulb in my apt is energy efficient including my closets!
I noticed that some lamps won't take the 100W equivalents.
I relish in how much energy I'm saving.
Of course, the best tactic is to turn the lights and appliances off altogether!

Great job, Ryan! That is unless you left the non-profit in the dark, in which case I don't know what to say. Thanks for the comment!

Congrats on your challenge and your nifty video! We started changing to "curly-fry" bulbs last summer, four a month. Frankly, I don't even notice the difference except in the bathrooms where the dressing-room style fixture makes the bulbs seem brighter. An engineer friend of mine says his flicker a little, but he believes that is a function of the older, less consistent wiring in his house, which his father built in the forties.
Between the new bulbs and the double paned windows we put in last summer, we saved over $200 on our electric bill for the last 12 months, despite a rate increase and that two-week spell where the temps exceeded 100 degrees. Green is good.
