Tyson ordered to stop saying their chickens are drug-free
Tyson Foods has been ordered to not make an antibiotic-free claim for their chicken, specifically, "raised without antibiotics, " according to a federal judge in Baltimore this past week. Why? Well, because the chickens are fed a type of antibiotic.Tyson's competitors, Sanderson Farms and Perdue, sought the injunction, arguing that the ads were misleading. All three companies use ionophores as a feed additive. Ionophores are classified by the USDA as an antibiotic but are believed to pose little to no risk to humans. Tyson was claiming that its poultry was "raised without antibiotics that impact antibiotic resistance in humans."
